Sigh of relief for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as Manchester United thump Spurs

London: In a must-win game for Ole Gunnar Solskjær, Manchester United managed a 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur. Cristiano Ronaldo scored and assisted one goal for his side. Whereas for their rivals, Manchester City displayed a disappointing performance against Crystal Palace in a 2-0 defeat at home.

Ronaldo opened the scoring for United with a spectacular volley of 39 minutes, Cavani doubled the lead for his team on 64 minutes, who put a through ball received from Ronaldo, behind the opposition goalkeeper. Marcus Rashford, who came in as a substitute, added the third goal late into the game.

After a series of the disastrous game, Ole had his job at stake. Especially after the humiliating 5-0 loss to arch-rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford. The Spurs game was a yardstick on deciding the future of his days at Manchester. But the three goals to nil scoreline will somewhat ease pressure from the United coach, who still has some big games coming up.

Pep Guardiola’s men, on the other hand, faced their second defeat of the season against Crystal Palace at Etihad Stadium. Wilfried Zaha scored early on in the game, while it was Conor Gallagher, who doubled the lead for Palace. City was rendered to 10 men and after Aymeric Laporte was sent off in the first half. The numeric disadvantage also set the team back.

Liverpool on the other hand was held to a 2-2 draw against Brighton. Brighton made an incredible comeback, they came back from a 2-0 deficit to draw the match with a scoreline of 2-2.  Enock Mwepu and Leandro Trossard scored for Brighton. The Merseyside Club was looking for a perfect weekend after defeating arch-rivals 5-0, only to be spoiled by Mwepu and Trossard.

 

Chelsea maintained their top spot in the league table, with a 3-0 win over Newcastle. Keeping the eye on the title Thomas Tuchel has a well-oiled machine, which has been delivering constantly. As for Chelsea, Reece James scored a pair of spectacular goals, as Newcastle struggled against Tuchel’s men. Jorginho scored the third from the penalty spot and sealed the game and top spot in the table for his team.
