Shooters Mahavir Swaroop, Deepak Unhalkar finish 4th, 20th at Tokyo Paralympics

Tokyo: Mahavir Swaroop Unhalkar of India finished fourth in the men’s 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 event at the Tokyo Paralympics, while Deepak Unhalkar of India finished 20th in qualification with a score of 592.6.

Swaroop shot a sequence of 51.2, 102.1, 122.7, 143.0, 164.2, 183.6, and 203.9 for a total of 203.9.

The 34-year-old Swaroop from Kolhapur was leading the competition at one stage, but scores of 9.9 and 9.5 in the sixth set knocked him out of contention for a medal.

Chao Dong of China (246.5) won the gold medal and set a new Paralympic record.

Andrii Doroshenko (245.1) of Ukraine and Jinho Park (224.5) of Korea won silver and bronze, respectively.

Swaroop, who began rifle shooting in 2009 and began competing in 2012, had qualified for the final in seventh place after firing a score of 615.2 in the qualification round.

Deepak, the other Indian shooter in the competition, came in 20th place in qualification with a score of 592.6, failing to proceed to the main round.
