The gesture was to create campaign to raise awareness against domestic violence against women. Milan defender Davide Calabria posted a picture wearing the red paint while Juventus’s young starlet Mathijs de Ligt was also seen wearing it.

As per reports, the red stripe stands for a movement, driven by Italian humanitarian organization WeWorld Onlus. In past few years, it has become quite a common sight to see Serie A players paint the stripe and take a stand, after statements were being made back in April and November 2018.with motto of this special campaign being “to give violence the red card”. That’s why the footballers mark across their faces with the paint while they are on the pitch.
