New Delhi: The men’s doubles duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty moved two places up to eighth in the latest badminton world rankings following their triumph in the Indian Open. While Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu and former world number one Kidambi Srikanth remained steady.

Sindhu, the former world champion, stayed in seventh place in the women’s rankings with 90994 points, while Srikanth remained in tenth place in the men’s rankings with 69158 points.

The men’s Indian doubles team of Satwiksairaj and Chirag, who surged from tenth to the eighth position in the current Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings with 76708 points, has been the largest gainer from an Indian aspect .

They won the men’s doubles title at the Yonex-Sunrise India Open on Sunday, defeating top-seeded Indonesian duo Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan 21-16, 26-24.

Satwik and Chirag, who entered the match with a 1-3 head-to-head record, put forth a valiant effort against the Indonesian duo and held off a comeback to win the final.

In 2019, Satwik and Chirag won the Thailand Open Super 500 and advanced to the final of the French Open Super 750.

Chinese Taipei’s Tai Tzu leads the women’s rankings with 108800 points while reigning Olympic champion Victor Axelsen heads the men’s list with 116779 points. None of the Indians featured in the women’s doubles and mixed doubles rankings.
