Kolkata: Sarfaraz Khan has officially replaced injured Sai Sudharsan in Indian squad for 2 match Test series against Sri Lanka starting from August 15.
The BCCI confirmed on Sunday that Sudharsan has been ruled out of the series. The batter has been undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru and has made significant progress, but he is yet to recover fully from the injury. He has suffered left big toe injury .
The Men’s Selection Committee has now brought in Sarfaraz, who had emerged as one of the two contenders to replace Sudharsan. The 28 years old has already played six Tests for India and has scored 371 runs at an average of 37.10, including three half-centuries and a hundred. His inclusion gives India another middle-order option as they prepare for the two-Test series. He last played for India in November 2024 where they suffered home series white wash against New Zealand.
“Sai Sudharsan has been ruled out of the Test series against Sri Lanka. The left-handed batter, who has been at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru, has made significant progress in his recovery from the right toe stress reaction and is recovering well.
The BCCI Medical Team is closely monitoring his progress.
The Men’s Selection Committee has named Sarfaraz Khan as a replacement for Sai Sudharsan for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka.
He will link up with the Indian squad in Colombo before the team travels to Galle for the first Test match, starting August 15, 2026”, said BCCI in an official statement.
Led by Shubman Gill, India are currently fifth in the World Test Championship standings, having registered four wins and four losses in nine matches, with a Points Percentage (PCT) of 48.150.
