New Delhi: Indian Premier League franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have received yet another blow ahead of the re-start of the IPL 2021 in the UAE, as allrounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the competition due to his finger injury.

RCB have named Bengal pacer — Akash Deep as his replacement. Sundar suffered the injury in England before being forced out of India’s ongoing five-match Test series against England.

“Royal Challengers Bangalore’s all-rounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the remainder of the IPL 2021 due to a finger injury. Akash Deep, a state cricketer from Bengal and net bowler with the franchise has been named as a replacement,” RCB said in a statement.

Bengal’s Akash has bowled at the nets for RCB in the past. “The move reiterates the focus RCB has on grooming and nurturing young players as the team continues to develop exceptional talents and create a pathway for young talents to find their way into IPL and Indian Cricket,” the statement read.

Akash, the 24-year-old, made his T20 debut in March 2019 and has bagged 21 scalps. His best haul of 4 for 35 came against Hyderabad in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy earlier this year. Royal Challengers Bangalore will kick start their campaign against the Kolkata Knight Riders on September 20 in the UAE.
