Kolkata: Will SC East Bengal be able to play in the upcoming Indian Super League (ISL)? Its now the biggest question in the Indian football scenario. Reports are also indicating towards it with FSDL (Football Sports Development Limited) may opting for including RoundGlass Punjab FC as an alternative to the Kolkata giants.

The speculations began to wander with the ongoing tussle between the East Bengal club officials and the investor Shree Cement Pvt. Limited. regarding the signature of the officials on the final term sheet. Amidst this chaos, FSDL has started trying to include Punjab FC and reportedly asked for application and sent the term sheet to them.

Punjab though finished fourth in the recently concluded I-League. Considering there’s hasn’t been a side in the ISL from the North Western region, this could be a matter of great interest. Also regarding AFC’s rule of at least playing 27 games in the domestic league for the participation in the AFC Champions League, this move could be vital one.

If everything goes on the right track, FSDL may officially announce the inclusion of a new side to the tournament in a few months.
