Mumbai: India’s limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma is reportedly set to replace current skipper Virat Kohli in white-ball cricket after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2021, according to reports.

Rohit Sharma’s name has been coming out for a long time regarding the captaincy of the Indian cricket team. Many believe that Kohli should entrust the responsibility of white-ball cricket teams to Rohit Sharma, who has a great record in the IPL. He has so far proved his mettle on several occasions and helped the team to remarkable victories.

The 32-year-old Kohli’s captaincy has come under scrutiny several times because of his strange captaincy decisions. “The BCCI is deeply concerned about Virat Kohli’s captaincy, especially in the ICC tournaments because of his failure as a captain in the ICC events. In a meeting held by the BCCI office-bearers in July after the WTC Final, it emerged that a lot of BCCI officials are unsatisfied with Virat’s captaincy,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying to Cricketaddictor.com.

“The decision to go ahead with 2 spinners in the WTC Final didn’t go too well with the BCCI officials and hence, it was discussed that the T20 World Cup can be the last opportunity for Virat Kohli, especially in the limited-overs format,” the source added.

Needless to say under Kohli’s leadership Team India has performed exceedingly well in the last few years across three formats of the game, both home and away. However, the only chink left in his armory is winning an ICC trophy as the captain of the Indian team has overshadowed all his glorious achievements.

A debate has always going on whether Rohit Sharma should be given the chance to lead from the front instead of Kohli. Ever since India lost the WTC final, fans have been demanding Kohli’s removal.

While many feel that captaincy should be spilt, some fans want the Mumbai Indians skipper as full-time captain. If reports are something to go by the management and the two players have has several meetings discussing this. However, an official announcement is yet to come.

However, BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal has dismissed all such reports. “This is all rubbish. Nothing (as) such is happening. This is all what you guys (media) are talking about. BCCI has not met or discussed anything on this issue (split captaincy),” Dhumal told IANS. “Virat will remain as the captain (of all formats).”
