Riyad Mahrez’s double strike sends Manchester City to UEFA Champions League Final

Manchester: Manchester City reached their first ever UEFA Champions League final on Tuesday (May 5) beating Paris Saint-Germain 2-0 (4-1 on aggregate) in second-leg  of the semi-final. Winger Riyad Mahrez scored a memorable brace at the Etihad Stadium while defender Ruben Dias was at his very guiding Pep Gladiola’s side one step closer to their quest of the ultimate continental glory.

Having suffered a 2-1 defeat in the first leg in Paris, PSG were hoping to make comeback and they did show intent in the first few minutes however, it was the host who opened the account against the run of play. Mahrez found the net in 11th minute after Goalkeeper Ederson started a move on the counters pinging a gem to find Olkesandr Zinchenko.

City were defensively superb although PSG tested them a few times. Pep Guardiola had high hopes from Centre-back Ruben Dias and the Portuguese proved it in style slamming the door for Neymar and Angel Di Maria. PSG’s lack of quality at the back was exposed despite their dominance in the domestic league. Mahrez completed his brace in the second half  sealing the deal while the youngster Phil Foden was again impressive setting one up for the Algerian. But the situation got heated as Di Maria sent off kicking-out Fernandinho with the quality of referring being put into question by the visitors. For visitors and Pep Guardiloa though it will be a test of their character when they either of Real Madrid or Chelsea in the final in Istanbul.
