Kolkata : Bengal’s wicketkeeper- Batsman Abishek Porel scored his maiden first-class century, smashing a superb 114 as Bengal managed to reach a commendable 381/8 at stumps on Day 2 against Chhattisgarh in their third Ranji Trophy Elite Group B match at the Eden Gardens on Saturday.
Facing 219-ball, the 21-year-old struck 14 boundaries and one six.
Veteran Anustup Majumdar stepped up once again with a crucial 71 off 118 balls to put Bengal in a commanding position.
At the end, Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal played a counter-attacking (33*) innings along with Karan Lal (24*) as the duo added a crucial unbeaten 50-run partnership for the 9th wicket to take team closer to 381/8 after end of the day.
Earlier, after play started post lunch session due to bad light, overnight batters Anustup and Abishek began on a cautious approach.
The duo added 41 runs after the start before the 39-year-old fell, thus ending a much-needed 120-run partnership for the fifth wicket, reducing Bengal to 247/5.
Subham Chatterjee, coming in at No.7, played a promising knock of 21 off 61 balls on his debut innings.
After his dismissal, Abishek, played some attacking shots to make sure Bengal crossed the 300-run mark before his brilliant innings came to an end.
For Chhattisgarh, Sourabh Majumdar, Vasudev Bareth and Shashank Singh bagged two wickets each.
