Hyderabad: India’s badminton sensation and the World Champion PV Sindhu has agreed to compete in the Thomas and Uber Cup, which is going to be held in Aarhus, Denmark from October 3rd to 11th.
The prestigious tournament was originally scheduled to be held from May 16th to 24th but was postponed to August 15th to 23rd before finally being rescheduled for October 3rd to 11th.
I have requested @Pvsindhu1 to join the team as we have a favourable draw and have the best chance to take a shot at a medal at the #ThomasUberCup. She has agreed and will prepone her family function so that she can be part of the Indian Team and play for the country @BAI_Media— Himanta Biswa Sarma (@himantabiswa) September 7, 2020
Sindhu wished to pull out of the tournament earlier due to some personal reasons but now she has confirmed to compete. Badminton Association of India president Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter to announce the news on Monday (September 7th).
No tournaments have been held since the Badminton World Federation (BWF) closed the World Tour due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus. The BAI has shortlisted 26 Indian shuttlers for the national camp which has started at Pullela Gopichand Academy in Hyderabad and the final shortlisting will take place on September 17.
