Bengaluru: Sunil Kumar Malik, the Gujarat Giants’ top right-handed cover has been sacked of his leadership in the midway of PKL 2021. Sunil will be replaced by Ravinder Pahal a.k.a. Binda, a right corner defender. Ravinder has assumed command with immediate effect ahead of the match against Puneri Paltan, a local rival.

Sunil Kumar has been dismissed from his captaincy by the Gujarat Giants franchise on several occasions. Midway through the seventh season, the Giants replaced him with Rohit Gulia. The team’s performance under his guidance had been the cause in both instances.

Ravinder Pahal, on the other hand, is a recognized leader with extensive experience in the same capacity. In the second edition of the Pro Kabaddi League, he captained the Dabang Delhi franchise. He also had a career-best season that year, winning the Orange Armband as the top defensive player in the league with 60 tackle points in 14 outings.

Ravinder ‘The Hawk’ Pahal is recognized as one of the all-time best right corner defenders. With 335 career tackle points from 117 games in the PKL, he is the league’s second-most successful defender, trailing only Manjeet Chhillar.

Gujarat coach Manpreet Singh has made the choice to go for a revival in the middle of the season. They are presently in 9th place with 13 match points, having only managed to win one of their five matches so far.
