Mumbai: Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra has taken the plunge into venture capital, following in the footsteps of many other famous athletes, by placing an unknown amount on influencer marketing platform One Impression.

Chopra invested in a “strategic round” in which the startup raised USD 1 million (roughly Rs 7.4 crore) from a group of investors that included Karandeep Anand (formerly of Meta), Varun Alagh of Mamaearth, Anupam Mittal of People Group, and stand-up comedians Zakir Khan and Kanan Gill, according to a statement from the startup.

One Impression plans to use the capital to develop product solutions for both companies and artists, as well as to hire more people and expand its operations in India and other major worldwide regions.

The firm, which claims to generate $7 million in yearly income and hopes to reach $35 million in 2022, will also invest in creator growth and monetisation potential.

Apaksh Gupta, the business’s chief executive and co-founder, stated that the investment will allow the company to grow tenfold. At the moment, it is working with brands in India, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, and Nepal.
