Manchester: Ole Gunner Solskjaer , the Manchester United boss defended his decision of featuring Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial in the starting line up , benching Cristiano Ronaldo after his side had an underwhelming home draw against Everton.

“No. You make decisions throughout a long, long season. You have to manage the players’ workload and the decision for me was the correct one. Anthony Martial did well, scored a good goal. Edinson [Cavani] needed minutes and could have had a goal. We have to make those decisions at the time.” said the head coach.

Manchester United were held in a unimpressive draw against Everton after an underwhelming loss against Aston Villa at home as well. Ole’s decision to not start Ronaldo had garnered a lot of criticism , and answering to claims Ole further stated:

“We got hit on one break that cost us and we lacked that cutting edge to get the important second goal. We made a couple of decisions that cost us. We had players behind the ball when the ball was delivered and we should have dealt with it. We need to work on it because we are facing more and more opponents who allow us to have possession.”

With the onset of October having very tough schedule ahead of the club when they face Manchester City and Liverpool after international break , the former Red Devil showed a great deal of confidence in the team and assured that they would bring good results for the club.

“It’s a big month. We have to be focused and make sure we use the international break well. We have to come back with energy and clear focus. The mindset is good, the players are hungry to improve.”

With such difficult games in line, it can be expected that the boss would play Ronaldo in all the games, who has been absolutely lethal for the team.
