Sao Paulo: The Brazil government has come forward in support of Neymar after the Paris Saint Germain star was engaged in a brawl with Alvaro Gonzalez in Ligue 1 game on Tuesday (September 15).

The game between PSG and Marseille, took an ugly turn when Neymar was reportedly called a ‘monkey’ by Gonzalez. This racist comment fueled an argument between the two players. However, it extended to a point where all the players from both the side got involved. A total of 14 cards were shown, out of which five were red.

The Brazilian slapped Gonzalez at the end of the match and got sent off too. The brawl didn’t just stay confined to the match time. Neymar took to Twitter and said, “The only regret I have is for not being in the face of this a**hole.”

In a second tweet, he further added, “VAR catching my ‘aggression’ is easy. Now I want to see the image of the racist calling me a ‘monkey motherf***er’… this is what I want to see!”. He called for an action to be taken against the racial abuses hurled towards him.

Gonzales however denied every claim that the Brazilian made. Albeit, in Brazil, the Ministry of Human Rights stood up for their native player. “In the face of yet another case of racism that has come to the surface in sport, the ministry of women, the family and human rights publicly voice its solidarity with the player Neymar Jr,” said the ministry.

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro also came forward and said, “Racism is a crime.” Neymar may face a multi-match ban for his aggressive behaviour and if his claims of racial abuse are proved against Gonzales he might face the same.
