Neymar hat-trick helps Brazil ease past Peru in 2022 World Cup qualifiers

Lima: Brazil continued their winning streak as they defeated Peru 4-2 in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers on Wednesday (October 14) at the Estadio Nacional. Coach Tite set up his side in a 4-3-3 formation with Marquinhos and Thiago Silva at the heart of the defence. Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz started in the midfield with Neymar, Richarlison and Firmino in the upfront.

Peru caused brazil early problems when went up 1-0 in the seventh minute when an early clearance from the Brazilian defence found Andre Martin Carillo who absolutely smashed it past goalkeeper Weverton Pereira da Silva. Marquinhos limped off the field in discomfort with Rodrigo Caio coming as his replacement in the 13th minute.

Brazil got their equaliser in the 27th minute when Neymar was taken down in the box by Victor Yotun. The Brazilian star made no mistake from the spot making it 1-1. While Brazil kept on dominating possession on the ball Peru tried to make the most of the defensive lapses from Brazil with their high pressing up the field.

In the second half, Peru got their head up again in the game due to clearance from centre-half Caio found Renato Tapia who’s attempted volley took a deflection found the net making 2-1. Neymar inspired a scintillating turn-around for the Samba nation after that with him having a great game especially in the second half.

On 64 minutes, Neymar’s floating corner found Firmino whose header met Richarlison to the back of the net. Neymar got the Brazilians into the lead in the 83rd minute when he converted from the spot before he put the final nail in the coffin in the added time to complete a stunning hat-trick.

The Brazil no.10 went past the great Ronaldo de Lima in terms of goals scored (64) with only Pele ahead of him (77). Brazil’s next match is against Venezuela at home on November 12.
