New Zealand women's cricket team receives bomb threat in England; Security tightened

Leicester: The New Zealand women’s cricket team has received bomb threats while on tour in England, according to the New Zealand Cricket Board (NZC), which also stated that the England and Wales Cricket Board had received a threatening email regarding NZC.

The threats were not particularly directed towards the White Ferns, according to an ANI report, but the subject was investigated before the allegations were deemed not credible.

The team had just arrived in Leicester for the third ODI of the series, according to NZC, and rumors of the team’s training being canceled were untrue because no training was scheduled on the traveling day, according to the official statement of NZC.

“The WHITE FERNS have now arrived in Leicester and, as a precaution, security around them has been boosted. Reports their training has been canceled are false,” NZC said in an official statement.

They were not scheduled to train today (Monday) as it was a traveling day. NZC will not be commenting further on the matter,” it added.

The third ODI of the series between England and New Zealand will now take place after NZC determined that a security concern was “not credible.”

However, according to ESPNcricinfo, a member of the White Ferns team management was approached and threatened with a bomb being planted at the team hotel. They were also warned that if they returned home after the series, a bomb may be planted on their plane.

The White Ferns was placed on lockdown on Monday as a result of the threat, with police and counter-terrorism authorities investigating the situation.
