Dubai: Former England captain Michael Vaughan has posted several tweets taking a dig at India for their disappointing performance in the Group 2 Super 12 clash of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup against Kane Williamson-led New Zealand at Dubai on Sunday.

Virat Kohli & Co managed to score just 110/7 off their 20 overs after New Zealand had won the toss and opted to bowl first. Notably, India started very slow scoring only one run in the first over and five runs in the second over. After ending the Powerplay on 35/2, India failed to score even a single boundary between overs 7 and 15, as Ish Sodhi, Mitchell Santner, and Adam Milne rocked the Men in Blue with regular blows.

“India are playing 2010 Cricket… The game has moved on.” Vaughan tweeted.

Vaughan also questioned India’s performances in white-ball cricket despite having the talent and claimed that the Indian men’s team has underachieved massively for years. “Let’s be honest. For all the talent & depth in Indian cricket, they achieved massively for years in white ball Cricket. Fact” wrote Vaughan.

The former England skipper blamed India’s mindset and approach behind their shocking showing in the opening two games of the 2021 T20 World Cup.  “India could be on the way out of this T20WorldCup .. the mindset & approach with all that talent so far has been so wrong.” Vaughan tweeted.

Vaughan also made a plea to the BCCI to let their players play in overseas T20 leagues to improve their performances in the shortest format of the game. “India should take a leaf out of all other countries. Allow their players to play in other leagues around the World to gain experience,” said Vaughan.

With this defeat, India is facing elimination from the 2021 T20 World Cup, having only three matches left. With the poor Net, Run Rate India will need a miracle for them to make it to the semi-final. After a resounding 10-wicket loss at the hands of arch-rivals Pakistan in their opening game, the loss to New Zealand left India fifth in Group 2, just above Scotland on net run-rate. With Pakistan already winning all three of their matches, they are in the pole position to make it to the semi-finals.
