Manchester United and Arsenal make it to the semi-final of Europa League

Manchester : Manchester United reached the Europa League semifinals courtesy Edinson Cavani’s early strike and a Jesus Vallejo own goal, as they secured a 2-0 home win over Granada on Thursday and completed a 4-0 aggregate rout of the Spanish side.

United will be facing AS Roma for a place in the final in Gdansk after the Italian side pulled a 3-2 aggregate win over Ajax Amsterdam with a 1-1 home draw in the second leg of their quarterfinal.

“We are looking forward to it. We’re in the semis. It feels like a proper European tie because Roma is a club with lots of history,” said United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.”We’ve done well against Italian sides before. We’re going into it hoping to get to the final. If we can finish the season with a trophy that’d be great.”

Arsenal also tipped toed into the Europa League semifinals after a complete dominant 4-0 win over Slavia Prague in their quarterfinal second leg and advanced 5-1 on aggregate.

Nicolas Pepe, Alexandre Lacazette, Bukayo Saka were the goal scorers for the gunners. The victory means Arsenal will face Villarreal, who beat Dinamo Zagreb in their quarterfinal, for a place in the finals.

“We know how important the competition is for the club, for ourselves and for the fans, “Mikel Arteta said after the match. “We brought a difficult result from the Emirates where we were not that efficient on the day and today we showed the complete opposite.”

“We looked a threat every time we were attacking,” Arteta added. “We scored a goal that was disallowed and I really liked the reaction of the team.”
