Kolkata : Finalissima, is the much awaited match between the UEFA Euro 2020 champions Italy and the CONMEBOL Copa America 2021 champions Argentina. This match is a venture to expand the cooperation between UEFA and CONMEBOL.
The match will be played on 1 June 2022 at Wembley in London. This is the third time the Euro Champions will be facing the Copa America winners. During the previous two fixture, the one in 1985, France won the match 2-0 against Uruguay and eight years in the second meet Argentina won in penalties against Denmark.
Italy reached the finals of Euro 2020 and were crowned the champions of Europe after defeating England on penalties at the Wembley. Whereas, Argentina brought an end to their 28 years of trophy drought by defeating arch rivals Brazil at their home ground in Maracana.
The Finalissima will be a 90 minute face off with no extra time. If the match remains a draw during the 90 minutes, the game will directly go to the penalties. It will kick off at 20:45 CET (19:45 local time, 15:45 in Argentina, 12:15 am 2nd June IST).
This match as said is an effort to expand the cooperation between the two federations. Aleksander Čeferin,the President of UEFA said, “We are very much looking forward to exploring new opportunities together and we are eagerly awaiting the Finalissima in London in June 2022.”
