Manchester City keep their title run smooth with win over Wolves

Manchester : Manchester City scored four past a resilient Wolves side bagging a 4-1 victory to extend their winning run in all competitions to 21 games and put further distance between themselves and the rest of the teams in Premier League title race.

The current Premier League table toppers were gifted an opener on 15 minutes when Leander Dendoncker redirected, Riyad Mahrez’s cross into the net for a Wolves own goal.However, Wolves responded well after the early mistake and were able to go into half-time without conceeding any further,although that was after a late Aymeric Laporte goal was waved off for a narrow offside call just before the first half break.

Man City started the second half strongly, dominated the opening minutes of the game. Although it was Wolves,who shockingly drew level when Conor Coady headed home from a Joao Moutinho free kick to make it 1-1 on 61 minutes.

Wolves stood firm against unrelenting pressure from the hosts, but Man City,was not far away and managed to retake the lead as the second half unfolfed through Gabriel Jesus, who pounced on a loose ball and buried a close-range shot on 80 minutes.

Mahrez, who was impactful throughout the game,he added further to the scoreline with a finish from the top of the area following a poor giveaway by Wolves substitute Owen Otasowie on 90 minutes and Jesus scored his brace to secure the three points for Pep Guardiola’s side,during the added minutes of the final half.

“Manchester United. That’s all we care [about now],” Guardiola said.

“The champions are Liverpool, the crown belongs to them. We are in the best position right now to take them out and we are going to try but they are the champions.

“There are 33 points to play for.”

With this win, City went 15 points ahead of second-place Manchester United. During the ongoing, 21-game winning streak for Man City,they have outscored their opponents by a staggering 55 goals to just eight allowed.
