Little time before India’s World Test Championship 2nd cycle; Exciting clashes on cards

New Delhi: With the inaugural cycle of the World Test Championship done and dusted, a dissappointed India will look up to lessons learnt until they start the next edition shortly. One of the consistent sides over the years, India ended up on the receiving end against New Zealand in the rain-marred final in Southampton.

The second edition of the World Test Championship will start next month that runs till June 2023. As per the format, each side will have to play three series at home and three series on foreign soil.

India’s new World Test championship campaign will begin with a tour of England, where they are set to play as many as five Test matches. The series is scheduled to commence on August 4 and end on September 14.

August 4-8: England vs India, First Test, Trent Bridge

August 12-16: England vs India, Second Test, Lord’s

August 25-29: England vs India, Third Test, Headingley

September 2-6: England vs India, Fourth Test, Kennington Oval

September 10-14: England vs India, Fifth Test, Old Trafford

After the England series, India will once again take on to New Zealand, in a two-match series in November at home. The schedule is yet to be revealed. Post that, Virat Kohli & Co. will fly to South Africa for a three-match Test series.

It is expected the series is likely to take place in December 2021 and January 2022. Early next year, India will host Sri Lanka for three-match Test matches. This will be the second home series in the World Test Championship.

The third home series will be against Australia in the second half of 2022. Both of the teams will fight for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in a four-match Test series. After the Border-Gavaskar Trophy India will end their league stage of the second edition of the World Test Championship with a two-match Test series against Bangladesh.
