Lionel Messi shuts critics with first Ligue 1 goal

Lionel Messi scored his first Ligue 1 goal for Paris Saint Germain in a 3-1 victory over Nantes. Lionel Messi bailed his team and offered a comfortable two goals cushion when his team was down to ten men. The out of the box strike from the Argentine on 87 minutes helped PSG secure the game.

The record times Balon d’Or winner was heavily criticised when he failed to score in the French league despite playing alongside the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Neymar Jr although he has shone in UEFA Champions League.

Since him leaving his boyhood club FC Barcelona, there were speculations about his success with the French side. The rumours gained momentum when he travelled with the Argentine squad for World Cup Qualifiers, shortly afterwards being left out of PSG squad for a reported injury.

Inspite of an early goal from Mbappe giving them a lead,Nantes found their equaliser. And for another wobble the team went down to ten men as Keylor Navas picked up a red card. Although Dennis Appiah’s own goal gave them a narrow 2-1 lead over Nantes. A typical Lionel Messi long ranger ensured the win for the Paris side.

Although, Messi announced his presence for the Parisians in a very typical Messi style with a goal carved out of individual brilliance.Messi’s incredible individual goal as he picked up the ball and whipped it with an inch-perfect finish into the far corner of the goal, was worth the wait. This was his 10th out of the box goal in 2021, the most by any player thus far.
