KNOW WHY: AIFF suspends FC Goa player Jorge Ortiz

Goa: FC Goa player Jorge Ortiz is sentenced to a two-match suspension and a fine worth of INR 50,000 by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) Disciplinary Committee. Ortiz was guilty of ‘committing serious misconduct’ after being charged with ‘violent conduct’ in FC Goa’s match against Bengaluru FC on Saturday ( December 11) in 2021-22 Indian Super League (ISL)

The player apologized in his defence and said ‘there was no harm intended’ towards the Bengaluru FC player Suresh Singh Wangjam. He wrote an apology to the committee. The AIFF body then called upon for an additional hearing and finally passed their verdict on Sunday ( December 19).

Jorge Ortiz was already out against Hyderabad FC as he served his automatic one-match suspension as a result of his red card offence. The Spaniard will also miss FC Goa’s match against Odisha FC on Friday( December 24). He will be eligible to be up for selection when the Gaurs play ATK Mohun Bagan on Wednesday( December 29).

Other than Ortiz, ATK Mohun Bagan physiotherapist Luis Alfonso Redondo Martinez is also been fined by the Disciplinary Committee an amount of INR 40,000. The ATKMB official was charged with a similar offence and had called upon for a hearing. Martinez has been issued a ‘stern warning’ owing to his actions. Although, no additional match suspensions have been imposed by the Committee.
