
New Chandigarh : India dominated Afghanistan on Day 1 of One-off Test at Mullanpur, New Chandigarh, on back of hundreds from Indian skipper Shubman Gill and KL Rahul. This is the second time Afghanistan are facing India in Test Cricket. The last time both sides played was on 2018.
Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (24) and KL Rahul (100) started off well with 41 runs opening stand before Jaiswal edged to keeper Afsar Zazai in the over of Saleem Safi to hand Afghanistan first wicket.
KL Rahul and in form Sai Sudharsan (81) notched up 139 opening stand. However, Sai missed his hundred just by 19 runs yet again edging to keeper in over of Safi. After this, India were left in strong position with 180-2.
Rahul brought up his 12th Test hundred in 61st over with 11 boundaries. Afghanistan is the 6th Test team that Rahul has scored hundred against. But in the very next Ball he gave a catch to Rahmanullah Gurbaz at covers in an attempt of cover drive on Ziaur Rahman’s Ball. This was also the third time he was dismissed exactly on 100 after reaching the landmark. This dismissal also ended 67 runs partnership with Gill.
Gill found a great partner in Rishabh Pant (50*) who brought up in 70 Balls with 3 sixes and 2 boundaries in last over of the day, as the pair stiched 121* runs partnership.
Gill also brought up his 11th Test century, continuing his fine red ball form with 11 boundaries and 1 six, to end the day with 368-3.
