Kerala Blasters announce experienced Serbian as their new head coach

Kochi: Indian Super League (ISL) side Kerala Blasters FC have announced the appointment of Ivan Vukomanovic as the club’s new Head Coach ahead of the upcoming 2021/22 season. The 43-year-old from Serbia will come to India bringing his illustrious experience of managing some of the top division sides of Belgium, Slovakia and Cyprus. His last stint was with Apollon Limassol in Cypriot First Division. Kerala announced the signing of social media on Thursday (June 17).

“From my first contact with the club’s directors, the feeling was positive. They have a professional approach about their vision, which gave me a very good feeling” added Ivan on the appointment.

” After seeing the army of fans and support KBFC has, I didn’t hesitate a second. Immediately I knew that I wanted to become a member of the KBFC family, and I am very glad it happened. I hope we will all work together to make everyone who loves this beautiful club happy and proud. Yennum Yellow!”, The Serbian further added.

Ivan, had a career as a professional footballer for over a decade playing in defence as well as defensive midfield with the likes Red Star Belgrade of Serbia, French side FC Bordeaux as well as Bundesliga side FC Koln before hanging up his boots.

Meanwhile his most notable coaching stint was with Belgian top flight side Standard Liege where he shape the career of Belgian internationals like Mitchy Batshuayi who later played for Premier League side Chelsea and also Laurent Cimon. Besides that, Under him management, the Belgian club alos secured berth in the UEFA Europa league group stages two years in a row. He also managed Slovak Super Liga side SK Slovan Bratislava leading them to Slovakia National Cup.

Kerala after a dismal last season, looked very active in the transfer market signing a few young player hoping to make themselves as a contender for the title next season.
