Kolkata: Ex Barcelona defender and the current Netherlands coach, Ronald Koeman has been chosen as the new Barcelona head coach till 2022. Koeman has already left the post of the Dutch National side and set all set to join Barca and will replace Quique Setien at the helm. His contract is till 2022.
Setien’s position became unstable after Barcelona were humiliated 8-2 by Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarterfinal last week. They had also lost the La Liga title to Real Madrid this season, despite being two points clear at the top of the table before the COVID-19 lockdown.
The 57-year-old former Barcelona player, comes in with loads of experience behind him having managed sides like Everton, Feyenoord, Benfica, and others. He was also the Barcelona assistant coach from 1998 to 2000. Koeman moved to FC Barcelona and became part of Johan Cruyff’s “Dream Team”, helping the club win La Liga four years in a row between 1991 and 1994, and the European Cup in 1992.
