Nottingham: India salvaged their innings on the rain-struck Day 2 of first test against England at 125/4 trailing 58 runs as the play was called-off at Trent Bridge due to heavy down-pour on Thursday. English maestro James Anderson (2/15) lead a superb comeback for the hosts in the 33.4 overs that was possible in the day with the majority of them coming in the morning session.

Meanwhile Indian batsmen once again struggled after being exposed on quality seaming conditions barring KL Rahul who stood at the crease unbeaten on 57* alongside wicket-keeper Rishav Pant (7*). After bundling out England for 183 in the first innings, India had the opportunity getting a further upped hand on their opponents.

The Men in Blue started the day on a positive note too with both Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul seeing through the morning session with much ease and discipline. It looked all steady until Rohit got dismissed for 36 at the stroke of lunch stitching a solid 97-run opening stand.

However, in the second session, with the clouds emerging up in sky, it was matter of overs before Anderson started to show his magic. The veteran seamer peaked both Chesteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli cheaply leading a comeback on the day 2. The Indian skipper starting his tour with first ball duck which proved to be fitting moment. Another experienced campaigner Ajinkya Rahane followed them soon getting run-out on a single digit. Rahul, on the other hand had to fight it out bringing up his half-century and will have to battle it out on Day 3 alongside Pant as the last recognized batting pair.

Brief Scores: (Day 2)

India : 125/4 (KL Rahul 57*, Rohit Sharma 36, James Anderson 2/15).
