Tokyo: After several roadblocks, the Tokyo Olympics is finally open with the Opening Ceremony on Friday at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo. The Tokyo Olympics was scheduled to happen last year but due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, had to be postponed for a year.

A total of 11,326 athletes will be competing at the Tokyo Olympics in 339 events across 50 disciplines. The Tokyo Olympics will see the introduction of new competitions including 3×3 basketball and freestyle BMX, and the return of madison cycling, baseball and softball. The Tokyo Olympics will also see karate, sport climbing, surfing, and skateboarding make their Olympic debuts.

India will be represented by more than 120-plus athletes – the biggest in history. Unlike the previous editions, expectations are high from the Indian athletes and it will be interesting to see how many medals the country can fetch this time.

Let’s take a look at some of the snapshots from the Opening Ceremony.
