Mohun Bagan right from the 1st half had an upper hand against Punjab, both the attacking duo Jason Cummings and Dmitri Petratos created ample room for scoring, and in the Australian forward opened the sheets in the 10th minute whereas, Petratos scored his first in 35th minute, giving the home side a 2-0 cushion.
In the 2nd half, Punjab had a decent start, as, Slovenia forward Luka Majcen netted in the 53rd minute, giving Punjab a ray of hope, but soon it diminished as Manvir Singh scored his 1st, few yards back from the goal post, increasing the lead to 3-1 , and this stayed till the end of the match, giving the defending champions an opening win in their 1st Match of ISL.
Mohun Bagan will next face Bengaluru FC and Punjab to face FC Goa , on 27 September and 2 October respectively.
