Kolkata: A press release from the East Bengal club confirmed the news of signing of a pre-contract with the Spanish defender Ivan Gonzalez on a two-year deal ahead of the ninth edition of the Indian Super League.
32-year-old Gonzalez has signed a pre-contract with East Bengal on a two-year deal,” the club release stated.
East Bengal had finished at the bottom of the Indian Super League table last season. In an endeavour to replenish their form, Ivan Gonzalez is set to be their first foreign signing of the season. The centre-back has been an important part of former coach Juan Ferrando’s system in FC Goa. He was seen playing in 36 games out of 42, that Gaurs have played in ISL for the last season. Despite impeccable defensive stats, Ivan Gonzalez has three goals and two assists to his name.
However, with Shree Cement pulling out East Bengal are yet to confirm their investors for the upcoming season. Although, the speculations of Bangladesh based Basundhara has been circulated for quite sometime, nothing confirmed has been stated yet.
