Kolkata: ATK Mohun Bagan moved to third place of Indian Super League (ISL) with a 2-0 victory over Odisha FC at Vivekanand Yuva Bharati Krirangan, Kolkata. Dimitri Petratos scored a brace and put an end to the Mariners’ two-game goalless spell. Odisha FC was eliminated from the playoff spots with a game remaining after the defeat and Bengaluru FC’s victory earlier in the day.

Petratos put ATK Mohun Bagan in the lead, just within three minutes of the game. A cross from Manvir Singh faced Osma Malik’s deflection to land straight to Petratos who converted the chance into goal.

The possession was evenly distributed between the two sides in the first half. However, Odisha FC managed to put just one shot on target in 45 minutes. That effort came in the form of a tame shot from Nandhakumar Sekar in the 37th minute, and was saved comfortably by Kaith.

ATK Mohun Bagan started the second half on the front foot. Ashique Kuruniyan waltzed into the area from the left flank after two minutes, but his attempt was off-target. At the other end, Carlos Delgado’s confident strike from long range went whistling over the bar, and Odisha FC failed to keep yet another attempt on targt. The second goal for the hosts didn’t come until the 80th minute. Boumous engaged Asish Rai on the right wing with a masterfully performed manoeuvre. The right-back sprinted into the box unnoticed and played a low pass across the face of goal, which Petratos tapped in.

After Ashique was dismissed for an off-the-ball offence in the final minute of stoppage time, the game ended bittersweet for ATK Mohun Bagan.

The win lifted ATK Mohun Bagan from fifth to third. However, the Mariners could drop to fourth if Kerala Blasters win their game against NorthEast United FC on Sunday. However, Odisha FC left out of the playoff spots and are now seventh, level on points with Bengaluru FC, with a game in hand.
