ISL 2022-23: ATK Mohun Bagan beat Odisha FC 2-0 to march into semis


Kolkata: A perfect knock out match was witnessed between Odisha FC and ATK Mohun Bagan at the Salt Lake Yuva Bharati Krirangan. ATK Mohun Bagan won the game with 2-0 against the visitors. Hugo Boumous and Dimitri Petratos. A shower of yellow cards, an seriously injured Vishal Kaith and some long added times. All ended on a well note for ATK Mohun Bagan as they won the knockout game to face Hyderabad FC at the same venue on 13th March, 2023.

The game had a well composed start with both the teams looking for chances. The midfield of Odisha FC was well maintained by Saul Crespo and Thoiba Singh while clearing the chances created by ATK Mohun Bagan. In the 8th minute, Ashish Kuruniyan got caught by Raynier Fernandes in the leg, the referee shows the Odisha man a yellow card. Kuruniyan was replaced by Liston Colaco. Within four minutes, Saul Crespo of Odisha FC received a yellow card.

Things heated up in the 19th minute as Diego Mauricio and Slavko Damjanovic got invoved in a terrible collision. The first close attack from ATK Mohun Bagan came from Dimitri Petratos in the 20th minute. Amrinder Singh makes a great save and palms the ball away to safety. Two minutes from the half-hour mark, a brilliant chase from Diego Mauricio carries the ball till the edge of the box, who passes it to Victor Romero. However the shot just wide.

Finally the deadlock broke in the 35th minute. A quick corner taken by Dimitri puts it inside the box. Manvir Singh flicks the a for Slavko, who plates it for Hugo Boumous. Hugo makes no mistake to place the ball inside the open box. Four minutes later, Sahil Panwar gets booked for fouling Manvir Singh .

The second half saw a confident and dominant ATK Mohun Bagan making a couple of attacks within four minutes of the resume of play. However, Liston misses an open opportunity as Amrinder fists the ball to the corner. Odisha FC strives to make a comeback as they are known for winning from losing.

In the 58th minute, Dimitri Petratos scored the second one for ATK Mohun Bagan. Carl McHugh snatched the ball from the middle to pass it to Hugo. Hugo just put in a cross right side where Dimitri was sprinting ahead, who makes a sublime touch to double up the lead.


On the hour mark, the situation became tense as Vishal Kaith got tangled with Odisha FC strikers and received some serious injury. The matter seemed to be pretty serious as an ambulance was called inside the pitch. Luckily, the ATK. Mohun Bagan goalkeeper managed to walk down the field, Arsh Anwar replaced him. Later Vishal was taken to a nearby hospital.

The game was all in for ATK Mohun Bagan with attacks coming from the host now and then. Dimitri, Subhasish, Liston and Hugo exchange quick passes to keep the Odisha FC defense in touch.

Some quick changes from both teams made an all round display. For ATK Mohun Bagan, Hnamte and Fede Gallego came in whereas, for the Juggernauts, Narendra Ghalot came in for Nandha Kumar. Odisha FC tried to come back in the game but were kept on close watch by the Green and Maroon defense. In the last minute of the stipulated time, Carl got booked for a high boot challenge on Saul. ATK Mohun Bagan marches into the semifinals, where they will face Hyderabad FC.
