ISL 2021-22 : SC East Bengal hold Chennaiyin FC with late equaliser

Goa : SC East Bengal denied Chennaiyin FC a chance to rise third in the points table.

A 2-2 draw in the Indian Super League at the Tilak Maidan Stadium denied the three points to Bozidar Bandovic’s men. The red and golds scored in injury time to put CFC rise at sixth, one point behind the fourth-placed team in the table.

CFC got the lead in the second minute of the match. A header from Suhail Pasha took a deflection from Hira Mondal and went inside the net for an own goal. The left-back’s turned to be worse as his individual error resulted the second goal. Ninthoinganba Meetel(15′) made the interception on the right flank. Making room for himself, he smashed the ball in the top-left corner to extend the lead to two.

At the half-hour mark, Antonio Perosevic had a chance to reduce the deficit. However the forward sent his shot wide. Nevertheless, a minute before halftime whistle, Marcelo Ribeiro’s diving header went off-target from close range. The Red & Gold Brigade pushed several times to find the opener. The Marina Manchans defense gave them no room to enjoy.

Starting the second half with push, the SCEB got their first shot on target coming through Mahesh Naorem Singh. Following the hour mark, the goal finally came. Darren Sidoel(61′) scored from a direct free-kick, with a lot of power. In the last ten minutes, both the teams just cancelled each other’s coring opportunities.

The equaliser finally came through Lalrinliana Hnamte (90+1’) which ended the game in a draw.The presurring football from SCEB finally paid dividends. Lalrinliana Hnamte(90+1′) scored the equaliser with a header. The forward was left unmarked inside the box. It punished CFC with an accurate headed goal.

However, there wasn’t enough time for either of the team to find the winner. Chennaiyin FC will next face defending champions Mumbai City FC at the PJN Stadium. SC East Bengal will lock horns with Odisha FC at the Tilak Maidan Stadium.
