Goa: FC Goa kept their slight playoff hopes alive. With a five-star performance against Chennaiyin FC, in the Indian Super League at the Tilak Maidan Stadium.

FC Goa was all from the start. They bossed proceedings from the start to finish. FC Goa left Chennaiyin with no room to breathe.

Dohling could have made it 3-0 for FC Goa from a Edu Bedia corner. However, his header was pushed away to safety by Debjit.

Makan Chothe scored his first ISL goal

Makan Winkle Chothe(6′) logged his first-ever ISL goal. Edu Bedia slipped a pass to Aiban Dohling on the left flank. The young winger served a crisp cross at the far end for Chothe. The 22 year-old Indian volleyed the ball first time into the back of the net with confidence.

Jorge Ortiz braced a hattrick

Ortiz(41′) made it 2-0 with Dohling involvement. He put the ball inside the area after Brandon Fernandes sent him in the clear on the left channel. Chennaiyin defence could not help to watch the ball, as they failed to clear the danger. The ball went to Ortiz who took a few placements before scoring past Debjit Majumder in Chennaiyin FC goal. Dohling started an attack again to double Ortiz’s tally. He combined with Alberto Noguera in the midfield. Noguera escaped the Chennaiyin defense to pass the ball to Ortiz. Jorge(53′) skilled to evade Anirudh Thapa and fire home. Ortiz achieved ISL 2021-22 season’s first hattrick as a effervescent Dohling got past a few defenders to nudge the ball in the path of the Spaniard. Ortiz sublimed the first touch to take the ball away from Narayan as he charged forward to rifle home from close.

Chennaiyin lost the grip halfway through

Chennaiyin lost grip of the game and posed no threat to FC Goa. As the halftime striked,  Noguera floated in a delightful ball inside the box. Narayan Das (45′) under-pressure put it into his own net to cap off his team’s half. Goa dominated the second half as Chennaiyin failed to cluster any real opportunity in front of goal.

Chennaiyin tried hard to weather the Goa storm by bringing in Nerijus Valskis in place of ineffective Lukasz Gikiewicz, who hardly made any impact.

Goa bagged a five-game winless streak and returns in form with the best possible way. Moving to 18 points from 16 matches, FC Goa is going good with their goal difference. They are still in ninth spot. Chennaiyin  had their second consecutive loss. They remained on 19 points from 16 matches and are placed eighth in the points table.
