ISL 2021-22: Hyderabad FC beat Bengaluru FC to retain top spot despite Sunil Chettri feat

Bengaluru FC's Sunil Chettri became the first player to score 50 goals in ISL.
Panjim: Hyderabad FC end Bengaluru FC’s nine-game unbeaten streak with a 2-1 win in the Indian Super League at Athletic Stadium in Bambolim on Friday.
Goals from Javier Siverio and Joao Victor helped Hyderabad FC retain their top spot in the table with 29 points while Bengaluru FC stay third. The same encounter also saw Sunil Chettri become the first to reach 50 ISL goals landmark.
Despite starting on a high, with Roshan Singh flaring up the flank, Bengaluru FC faltered to the pressure of Manuel Marquez’s men. Hyderabad FC opened the scoring as early as the 16th minute through the likes of Javier Siverio.

A beautiful run down the left flank by Rohit Danu found Bartholomew Ogbeche who failed to convert it. However, Siverio was quick to slot it past in. The second goal of the night for the Nizams came a quarter later. A cleverly taken free-kick added to the tally.
Sauvik Chakrabarti passed the ball from left flank which was perfect recieved by Joao Victor. Victor slots it past Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, who despite diving into the correct direction failed to block it.
Bengaluru FC seemed to get hold of the game, second half onwards. Even maintaining the possessional advantage throughout the Blues failed to make an impact. Marco Pezzaiuoli’s men were deprived of being on the scoresheet despite numerous efforts.
The prominent ones being Cleiton Silva’s freekick that was parried away by Laxmikant Kattimani and the header whipped by Roshan Naorem Singh which could not be converted by skipper Sunil Chettri. Kattimani’s skill’s under the bars were tested quite a few times in the later minutes of the second half.
The final minutes of the game saw Chettri score his 50th goal in the tournament. A perfectly driven ball by Udanta Singh finds Chettri who renders Kattimani helpless. Rohit Danu and Joao Victor put up some splendid performance for the Nizams while youngster Roshan Singh shines for the Blues. Manuel Marquez’s men.
