ISL 2021-22: FC Goa star Jorge Ortiz makes the difference to overcome Chennaiyin FC

Goa: FC Goa haulted their four-match winless streak with a 1-0 win over Chennaiyin FC at the Athletic Stadium in Bambolim. The result denies the Marina Machans from breaching the top-four places in the points table.

Both the teams had a slow start and took time to get the rhythm of attack. Edwin Vanspaul was given a yellow card, following some harsh physical attacks. Jorge Ortiz got the chance to break the deadlock at the 18th minute but a quick closure from brave Debjit Majumder inside the box saved it. At 35th minute, a header from Anwar Ali went slight past the target.

The Gaurs had more of control on the ball from the first half only as they were determined to score. Glan Martins put a long-range to test the goalkeeper, the rebound of which was hit by Ortiz into the side nets. Derrick Pereira planned to put his men into the defense of the Marina Machans but could not break into their strong wall. The strong fight resulted in a goalless half time.

The Gaurs started the second half with a pressure pouring over the CFC. Edu Bedia was near to score an Olympic goal from a corner kick that hit the post to stay out. A rough tackle on Nerijus Valskis gifted the Spaniard a yellow card. Germanpreet Singh replaced an injured Vladimir Koman. As the match continued, the Gaurs put up a dominating attacks on the opposition.

Jorge Ortiz (82′) finally broke the deadlock with a sensational left-footed strike from long-range, leaving the goalkeeper stranded.The solitary goal of the game was enough to secure three points to the Gaurs .As the match reached the hour mark, it was one-way traffic with FC Goa dominating possession and creating more scoring chances than CFC.

Chennaiyin FC will face Hyderabad FC in their next fixture whereas FC Goa will take charge against NorthEast United in the next me
