
Kolkata : Lucknow Super Giants made a comeback in the league with a thrilling victory by 5 wickets (1 ball left) against Sunrisers Hyderabad, with dominating bowling from Mohammed Shami and a match-winning knock by skipper Rishabh Pant at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad, in the 10th match of the Indian Premier League 2026.
LSG were defeated by Delhi Capitals in their first match. On the other side, SRH had played 2 matches with 1 win and 1 loss. For today’s match, both teams made some changes before stepping onto the field. SRH made two changes, bringing in Liam Livingstone and Harsh Patel. LSG made one change, bringing in Manimaran Siddharth in place of Anrich Nortje.
The match began with LSG winning the toss and choosing to bowl first. The firing opening duo of SRH was shattered by the brilliant bowling of Mohammed Shami, who took two major wickets and delivered a magical performance of 2/9 in 4 overs, earning Player of the Match. Abhishek Sharma got out for a duck in 2 balls (c Siddharth b Shami), and Travis Head scored 7 in 8 balls (c Aiden Markram b Shami). Then captain Ishan Kishan came in at No. 3 but was dismissed early by Prince Yadav for 1 in 4 balls. Livingstone also fell after scoring 14 in 20 balls. At that point, SRH were struggling at 26/4 in 7.1 overs. Then Nitish Kumar Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen built a solid partnership of 116 runs in 63 balls, helping SRH recover and reach a competitive total. Both played exceptionally well. Reddy got out after his fifty, scoring 56 in 33 balls, and Klaasen was dismissed for 62 in 41 balls. H. V. Dubey and S. Kumar came in but scored only 2 in 5 balls, while Dubey managed just 1 run. A. Verma and H. Patel finished the innings with a run-out on the last ball by Rishabh Pant, with SRH ending at 156/9 after 20 overs, setting a decent total for LSG. The innings showcased the proper dominance of the LSG bowlers.
LSG opened the chase with Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh. Markram played a good innings of 45 in 27 balls (c Livingstone b Shivam Kumar). Then captain Rishabh Pant came in to bat. Marsh got out early after scoring 14 in 12 balls (c Nitish Kumar Reddy b Eshan Malinga). Ayush Badoni scored 12 in 9 balls (st Ishan Kishan b Harsh Dubey), and Nicholas Pooran was run out by Ishan Kishan, leaving LSG at 105/4 in 13.1 overs. At that point, the game seemed to be slipping away from LSG as SRH made a strong comeback with the ball. However, captain Rishabh Pant played a great match-winning knock of 68 in 50 balls with 9 boundaries and stitching crucial partnerships.In the final over, LSG needed 9 runs from 6 balls, and Pant handled the pressure brilliantly, scoring the 2 boundaries to Jaydev Unadkat and confidently guiding his team to victory with 160/5 in 19.5 overs.
With this win, LSG bounced back strongly in the league. They will face Kolkata Knight Riders on 9 April in their next match. Meanwhile, SRH have now played 3 matches with 1 win and 2 losses, and they will face Punjab Kings on 11 April, where they will try to make a comeback after this defeat.
