Ahmedabad : Gujarat Titans (GT) secured a comfortable victory over Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by four wickets (with 25 balls left), with a clinical all-round performance in the 42nd match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on 30 April at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. Jason Holder and Shubman Gill emerged as the standout performers.
The match began with GT winning the toss and electing to bowl first. Virat Kohli started the innings in electrifying fashion, smashing Kagiso Rabada for five consecutive boundaries in a blazing over. He scored 28 off just 13 balls before Rabada dismissed him. After his wicket, the momentum shifted in favor of GT with the collapse of RCB’s middle order. Rajat Patidar got out after scoring 19 off 15 balls. Then Jitesh Sharma scored 1 off 3, Tim David made 9 off 6, and Krunal Pandya managed 4 off 4. The duo of Rashid Khan and Arshad Khan were outstanding with the ball, taking crucial wickets at key moments. Arshad Khan picked up 3 wickets for 22 runs in 3.2 overs, while Rashid Khan delivered brilliantly with impressive figures of 2 wickets for just 19 runs in his 4 overs. As a substitute impact player, Venkatesh Iyer came in but did not contribute much, getting out for 12 off 15 balls to Arshad Khan. That wicket triggered a collapse in the RCB middle order. From a strong position of 71/2, they suddenly slumped to 96/6 in 10.3 overs as wickets fell in clusters. Devdutt Padikkal tried to anchor the innings with 40 off 24 balls but did not find any partnership and was dismissed by Rashid Khan. A run-out of Josh Hazlewood ended the innings, and RCB were bowled out for 155 in 19.2 overs — the first time they have been bowled out this season.
Chasing a modest target of 156, GT started aggressively from the very first over, attacking the RCB bowlers. Captain Shubman Gill played a breathtaking knock of 43 off just 18 balls, hitting 4 fours and 3 sixes with a strike rate of 238.89. Jos Buttler also provided a tremendous contribution with 39 off 19 deliveries. The top order made the chase comfortable. However, Bhuvneshwar Kumar came up with a brilliant spell and dismissed both, slightly shifting the momentum towards RCB. Then Rahul Tewatia, with his calm 27 off 17 balls, along with Rashid Khan, guided the team to chase down the target, reaching 158/6 in 15.5 overs.
Jason Holder made a massive impact in all three departments, finishing with figures of 2/29 and taking three catches. He was named Player of the Match for his splendid all-round brilliance.
With this win, GT secured 2 points and, with a good net run rate, moved to 5th position on the table with 10 points. RCB still holds 2nd position with 12 points.
