Bengal duo named in India A squad for South Africa tour

Mumbai: Bengal opener Abhimanyu Easwaran and pacer Ishan Porel have been called-up in the 14 men India A squad for a tour to South Africa, BCCI announced on Tuesday.

The tour will begin on November 23 in Bloemfontein as India A to play three four-day matches with the next two fixtures to be played on November 29 and December 6 respectively at the same Venue. Easwaran, the opening has been around India A set up for quite a while now and was on song in against Karnataka in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 last Tuesday scoring an unbeaten 51 to Bengal’s victory Karnataka to make the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, Porel, the lanky seamer will look to impress the selectors after not getting enough opportunities in the IPL this season although he has been fairly good for his stateside. The pacer will also reunite with his former U-19 teammate Prithvi Shaw, under whose leadership, Porel flourished at the ICC U-19 World Cup back in 2018.

However, this time they all will be led by the experienced Priyank Panchal of Gujarat in the India A colours. Also, Jammu speedster Umran Malik, who made headlines in the IPL with Sunrisers Hyderabad clocking over 150kmph has earned a call-up.
