Mumbai : Mumbai Indians defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 8 Wickets at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Debutant Ashwani Kumar grabbed 4 wickets and Ryan Rickelton smashed half century to achieve MI’s 1st win of IPL 2025.
MI bowling first saw emergence of another young bowler – Ashwani Kumar. The 23 years old picked 4 wickets – Ajinkya Rahane, Andre Russell, Rinku Singh, Manish Pandey, and with a spell of 4/24 became first Indian bowler to grab 4-fer in IPL debut. Deepak Chahar also picked 2 wickets.
KKR struggled throughout the innings, eventually were bundled for 116.
MI chasing 117 runs, only lost Rohit Sharma (13) early, and Will Jacks (16) later off Andre Russell.
However, Ryan Rickelton played knock of 62*(41) including 5 sixes and 4 boundaries, along with Surya Kumar Yadav (27*), as MI chased down the target in 12.5 overs, and climbed to 6th spot in points table.
Ashwani Kumar was adjourned man of the match for his iconic debut spell.
