IPL 2024 : Philip Salt’s 89 helps Kolkata Knight Riders beat Lucknow Super Giants for 1st time in IPL history

Kolkata : Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) beat Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 8 wickets, at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, for 1st time in IPL history, on auspicious eve of Bengali New Year. Philip Salt’s 89, Mitchell Starc’s 3 fer proved instrumental in the feat.

Chasing 162 runs, KKR lost Sunil Narine, Angkrish Raghuvanshi cheaply. However, Philip Salt continued to go after LSG bowlers especially Gabba hero Shamar Joseph continuously.

Skipper Shreyas Iyer played a good anchor role scoring 38*(38).

Salt ended his innings with 89*(47) winning Man of the Match and giving KKR important 2 points.

Mohsin Khan was sole LSG bowler to take wickets, picking up Narine and Raghuvanshi.

In 1st innings, KKR bowled tight line and lengths. Taking wickets at regular intervals of time they never let LSG batters to settle.

Skipper KL Rahul (39), Ayush Badoni (29) tried their best to score big but was trapped by Russell and Narine respectively.

Nicholas Pooran was the lone warrior among the whole Batting line up scoring 45(32) , taking LSG to 161/7 at the end of 20 overs.

The sigh of relief for KKR was Mitchell Starc’s coming back to form, taking 3 wickets with just an economy rate of 7 at the end of the spell (3/28).

 

KKR are now at the 2nd of IPL 2024 points table with 4 wins out of 5 Matches.

Whereas, LSG are at 5th position, losing 2 consecutive Matches , winning 3 out of 5.

KKR will now host Rajasthan Royals on April 16 , whereas, LSG will be taking on Chennai Super Kings on April 19 at Lucknow.
