IPL 2022: RCB open their account with victory, beats Kolkata Knight RidersMumbai: Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by three wickets on Wednesday at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai to earn their first points in the IPL 2022.

RCB were 17 for 3 in their chase of 129, but Sherfane Rutherford led a furious lower-order rally to deny KKR. RCB’s standout was Wanindu Hasaranga, who had four wickets for twenty runs, while Harshal Patel had two wickets for eleven runs in four overs. Patel bowled two maidens to suffocate KKR, who had lost their top order due to poor shot selection.

In contrast, RCB got off to a shaky start. Anuj Rawat was out in the opening over to Umesh Yadav, while Faf du Plessis got out in the second over to Trent Boult. Umesh then took the crucial wicket of Virat Kohli before David Willey and Sherfane Rutherford stabilized the RCB batting with a good fourth-wicket stand.

Sunil Narine’s wicket of Willey in the 11th over boosted KKR’s hopes, but Shahbaz Ahmed kept his cool to partner Rutherford as RCB opened their account for IPL 2022 after losing to Punjab Kings in their first encounter.
