IPL 2022: Rohit Sharma fined 12 lakh for MI’s slow over-rate against Delhi Capitals

Mumbai: Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma has been fined ₹12 lakh for his team’s slow over rate in their IPL 2022 opener against the Delhi Capitals.

“The Mumbai Indians have been fined after they maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 match against Delhi Capitals at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on March 27,” read an IPL statement.

“As it was the team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma was fined Rs 12 lakhs,” it further added.

The BCCI has been strict since the last season in terms of over-rates. According to BCCI’s rules, the minimum over-rate to be achieved in IPL matches to complete an innings of 20 overs on time is 14.11 overs per hour.

Talking about the game, Playing their first match of the season, the Mumbai-based franchise continued their tradition of losing their first match of the season. MI dominated DC for a major part of the game, but all thanks to Lalit Yadav and Axar Patel, they put up a stellar show with the bat to guide Delhi Capitals to a four-wicket win over Mumbai in their opening fixture of IPL 2022.
