Mumbai: Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma admitted that irresponsible shots from the batters cost his team another loss against Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday at Wankhede Stadium. This is Mumbai Indians’ eighth straight loss in the tournament.

Speaking at the end of the match which MI lost to LSG by 36 runs, blaming the batters for their poor show, Rohit said that the bowlers did a decent job but some of the shots played by the batters were irresponsible, including the one played by him.

“I thought we bowled pretty okay. It was a good pitch to bat on but we didn’t bat well enough. We should have chased that down. When you have a target like that, you need that partnership, which we couldn’t do. Some irresponsible shots including mine. They bowled well in the middle,” Sharma said in the post match presentation.

An disappointed MI skipper further said it has been a dismal show from their batting unit this season as they failed to find a batter who plays a long innings. Rohit also revealed why Tim David is not getting a long run in the team.

“You have to ensure one of the batter bats long but we have failed to do that in this tournament. Some of the opposition players have done that and that has hurt us. [On if Tim David’s name was discussed] Looking at how the tournament has gone every has come into the discussion. We want to make sure whoever gets a chance, they get a run in the XI. So we try not to make too many changes. Whoever plays should get enough opportunities, that’s how I look at it.”

The team India skipper further said the management wants to give all the players a fair chance as they play different roles while representing the national team.

“Everyone has come into discussion given how our tournament has gone. We need to ensure that we have a settled team and give players in the middle a fair chance. Their roles are different when they play for their countries and here we expect something else from them.”

“We tried not making too many changes, and we have tried to play the best combination possible. But when you lose games, you always have such discussions. As far as I am concerned, I want to give people enough chances to prove themselves. The season hasn’t gone the way we would have wanted it to, but such things happen,” he signed off.
