IPL 2022: MS Dhoni steps down as Chennai Super Kings captain, passes baton to Ravindra Jadeja

New Delhi: In what comes as a big development, MS Dhoni has handed over Chennai Super Kings captaincy to all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja ahead of IPL 2022.

Jadeja, who has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings since 2012, has played under Dhoni’s captaincy since joining the franchise and is currently one of the premier all-rounders in world cricket. Jadeja is only the third cricketer after MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina to become CSK’s captain.

“MS Dhoni has decided to hand over the leadership of Chennai Super Kings and picked Ravindra Jadeja to lead the team. Jadeja, who has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings since 2012, will only be the third player to lead CSK. Dhoni will continue to represent Chennai Super Kings this season and beyond,” CSK said in a statement.

Dhoni, who has been the CSK captain since the it’s inception in 2008, will continue to represent Chennai Super Kings this season and after that. He has already retired from international cricket. CSK have won the IPL title four times (in 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021), only behind Mumbai Indians and have the highest win percentage of matches among all teams in the cash-rich League.
