Mumbai: Former Kolkata Knight Riders skipper and mentor of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) Gautam Gambhir praised young Mohsin Khan for his outstanding performance against the Delhi Capitals on Sunday.

The ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League has seen some of the finest fast-bowling talents rise to the occasion. One of them is Lucknow Super Giants pacer Mohsin Khan. The 23-year-old created a huge impact with his clinical performance against Delhi Capitals as he picked up the crucial wickets of David Warner, Rishabh Pant, Rovman Powell and Shardul Thakur, thereby ending the game for the Capitals.

Gambhir reckoned that the youngster’s spell was the game-changing over against DC, which helped Lucknow register a six-run victory. Speaking in a video released by the franchise, the former Indian opener said, “Mohsin. I think it’s not about one over. It’s simply Mohsin’s period of four overs, 16 for four runs. And the last one, when he got Rovman Powell and then [Shardul] Thakur out, was a watershed moment.”

Just four matches into his IPL career, Mohsin has already Impressed everyone with his impeccable bounce and the ability to hit at 140 KMPH consistently. Mohsin also won the man of the match award against Delhi, picking up four wickets only for 16 runs. So far he has eight wickets under his belt at an economy rate of 6.07 runs per over. “Young man with a terrific head on his shoulders and a lot of pride in his abilities. If he continues to practice hard, he will most likely become quite a good player.” Gambhir added.

Despite the Super Giants’ clinical effort and overall performance, Gambhir underlined few concern for LSG. He stated that the squad needs to improve in all three areas of the game as the tournament progresses.

KL [Rahul] was fantastic. Hooda [Deepak] was wonderful. But I believe Mohsin Khan was the star performer for me. On this wicket, you can’t even ask somebody like him for this kind of performance. Wankhede, bowling second, has a four-over total of 16 for four, which is incredible. However, we have not yet performed our best cricket yet.”

“There’s a long journey to go still. We didn’t play our greatest cricket, but we did get the win. We would not want to sweep this under the rug, do we? We still need to improve, in my opinion. Keep improving in all three categories. That is exactly what Champion teams do.” Gambhir signed off.

It was the seventh win in ten games for debutant LSG. They will next be seen against Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday (May 7).
