Bowlers powered Delhi Capitals to play-offs

Ahmedabad: Delhi Capitals returned in winnings ways registering a seven-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League on Thursday (April 29) at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Prithvi Shaw (82) alongside Shikhar Dhawan (46) ran havoc as Delhi Capitals cruised to 156/3 in 16.3 overs after Andre Russell (45) and Shubman Gill (43) sent KKR to 154/6 in 20 overs.

 

Chasing 155, it was all about the Shaw. The youngster hammered Shivam Mavi for six consecutive fours in the opening over which pretty much set the tone up. Shaw and Dhawan willowed 67 runs in the powerplay which kind off dented the spirits of the KKR bowlers. The duo added 132 runs in just 13.5 over before Dhawan got dismissed for 46.

Lackluster KKR bowlers looked clueless at times against him. Despite the hammering, Pat Cummins (3/24) was surprisingly good however it wasn’t enough for his side. DC Skipper Rishav Pant’s (16) cameo added the finishing touch helping his side climb to second in the table.

Eariler, Delhi’s bowlers were on song wrapping up the middle order of KKR. Nitish Rana despite a good start the tournament failed to continue his good form. Rahul Tripathi struggled through his innings while skipper Eoin Morgan and Sunil Narine both went home for a duck. Gill though finally got some runs under his belt scoring a hard-fought 38- ball 43.

However, it all came down to Andre Russell, who led the charge after really slow start smashing a 27 ball 45 sending Kolkata to 154/6. For Delhi, Lalit Yadav (3/13) and Axar Patel (2/32) were the pick of the bowlers.
