Kolkata: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 will commence from September 19 in UAE. However, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has indicated that there might be limited crowd gathering, as the season begins. The board is yet to confirm the schedule.

The former Indian captain has hinted that the live game might be open to only 30 per cent crowd. Others will be able to catch live through the television. The COVID 19 situation in UAE is far better than in India.

“Crowds will watch it on television, they (the broadcasters) are actually expecting the highest rating of IPL this season because they believe if (people) don’t turn up in the ground, they will be actually watching on their television sets,” Ganguly said.

“There is a positive in everything,” he said while delivering an online lecture as part of the ‘Symbiosis Golden Jubilee Lecture Series’, “because of the COVID and infection, you don’t want people to be too close to each other, but very soon you will see there will be 30 per cent people in the ground with social distancing.”

The preparation of the T20 league has faced a huge blow last week, when 13 members of Chennai Super Kings were tested positive, with Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh skipping the league due to personal reasons. The first match is supposed to play between CSK and Mumbai Indians.
