IPL 2020: Have Chennai Super Kings found Suresh Raina’s replacement?

New Delhi: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been reticent since vice-captain Suresh Raina decided to fly back to India and give this year’s IPL a miss owing to some personal reasons. Since then Raina has hinted he wouldn’t mind coming back to the Super Kings squad again and take part in IPL 2020 but latest reports suggest that, England left-hander Dawid Malan is replacing Raina in the CSK squad for IPL 2020.

Since making his Test debut for England against South Africa in 2017, Malan has been a consistent performer for his country. The left handed batsman has witnessed a splendid rise in T20I cricket and Super Kings will only benefit from his addition.

CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan on Friday, however, looked surprised about reports of Malan being looked at Raina’s replacement as he said foreign quota is already full in the squad. “This is news to me as well because our quota of foreign players is already full. So I don’t know how we can have another foreigner in the squad,” he told ANI.

Asked if there was any injury issue with any other foreign player that led to the rumours, he said there isn’t any. Meanwhile, pacer Deepak Chahar has recovered from COVID-19 and has started his training from Friday after testing negative and completing his self-isolation. “Deepak has all the necessary clearance from the CSK and BCCI side and will start training from today,” Viswanathan said.
